The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian Mind Map

The Absolutely true Diary (2007) of a part-time Indian mind map is a fiction based Novel. The book was published in 2007 and has received widespread acclaim since then, including receiving the National Book Award, the highest honor in American literature. Alexie moves to young adult genre to provide an autobiographical account of reservation life that is dark and hopeful, heartbreaking and uplifting. The Absolutely True Diary's humorous narrator is Arnold Spirit, Jr., a fourteen-year-old Native youngster based in part on Alexie's experiences growing up on the Spokane Indian Reservation in Wellpinit, WA. Arnold is a witty, sympathetic young man who is also a developing artist (as evidenced by Ellen Forney's wonderful illustrations). Arnold, on the other hand, isn't just a typical adolescent Indian going through the motions. Arnold is also a hydrocephalic with a stutter and lisp. He is relentlessly picked on. He's the pariah on the reservation, and he's been beaten to a pulp more times than he should be. After his grandmother's funeral, a family friend, Eugene, is shot in the face by his friend Bobby while drunk after fighting over alcohol. After grieving and reflecting on his loved ones' deaths, Junior plays in his basketball team's second match against Wellpinit. Reardan wins and Junior gets to block Rowdy.
