Bridge to Terabithia

Bridge to Terabithia is a drama, fantasy and children’s literary book about two children named Leslie and Jesse who create a magical forest kingdom in their imaginations. The novel was written by Katherine Paterson and published in 1977. The novel tells the story of fifth grader Jesse Aarons, who becomes friends with his new neighbor, Leslie Burke, after he loses a footrace to her at school. Leslie is a tomboy from a wealthy family, and Jesse thinks highly of her. Jesse is an artistic boy from a poorer family who, in the beginning, is fearful and angry.The two children create a kingdom for themselves, which Leslie names "Terabithia." Jess Aarons and Leslie Burke, two fifth-graders who become friends and establish a fictitious land called Terabithia where they may forget about their worries, star in Bridge to Terabithia. Jesse (Jess) Aarons, a talented but poor fifth-grader who lives on his family's farm with his parents and four sisters, is protagonist of Bridge to Terabithia. Jess begins the book by preparing to be the fastest runner in his class. However, the race is won by Leslie Burke, a new girl who has gained the approval of her professors. Leslie's intelligence and originality bring out Jess's admiration for her, and the two become great friends as a result of this.
