Mind Map Of Herbert Spencer

This is a Mind Map Of Herbert Spencer. Herbert Spencer (27 April 1820 – 8 December 1903) was an English philosopher, biologist, anthropologist, and sociologist who is well known for his social Darwinism hypothesis, which claims that superior physical force determines history. After reading Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species, Spencer invented the phrase "survival of the fittest," which he first used in Principles of Biology (1864). Although the name implies natural selection, Spencer saw evolution as expanding into areas such as sociology and ethics, hence he backed Lamarckism. Spencer came up with a broad definition of evolution that included the progression of the physical world, biological species, the human mind, and human culture and society. As a polymath, he made contributions to ethics, religion, anthropology, economics, political theory, philosophy, literature, astronomy, biology, sociology, and psychology, among other fields. During his lifetime, he amassed enormous power, particularly in English-speaking academics. "Bertrand Russell, an English philosopher who lived in the twentieth century, was the only other English philosopher to acquire anything close to such universal acclaim. " Spencer was "the single most famous European intellectual in the final decades of the nineteenth century," but his clout waned dramatically after 1900: In 1937, Talcott Parsons wondered, "Who now reads Spencer?"
