Raise Taxes
- PROS
- Political- Government can ensure theyhave a good quality of healthcare.
- CONS
- Economical- It lowers the disposable incomeof citizens, and lowers the consumerexpenditures of the general populace, which hurts businesses and the overalleconomy. - This is particularly true in thecase of so-called "luxury" goods, such ashigh-priced cars, jewelry, and other suchgoods.
Increase in technology and IT used/ use of personal data online.
- PROS
- Technological- Instant access to personalhealth records online – inspired by the ‘bluebutton’ app in the US, the new NHS.UK sitewill also enable patients to securely downloadtheir personal health records, giving theminstant access to important healthcareinformation, such as prescriptions and testresults.
- CONS
- Economical- These services will cost thegovernment a lot of money to purchaseand maintain.
- Sociological- a lot of older people withhealth problems may not be able to adapt tothe new healthcare system and will go to thedoctors anyway.
Privatise all healthcare
- PROS
- Economical- More competition means lowerprices, encourages development of newproducts and better quality service
- Social- Improved Facilities
Unfortunately, because the public system isfunded with government money it does nothave access to as much funds as the privatesector one do. This means that publichospitals and health care facilities are oftenovercrowded, and lacking certain comfortamenities. Private health care facilities, on theother hand, are usually well maintained.
- CONS
- Economical- A monopoly could occur
- Sociological- Massive amount of thepopulation are against privatisation.
- Economical- Private Health Insurance CostsMore than Public Health Insurance
While the US government might be saving amarginal amount of money by having a privatehealthcare system instead of a public one; thereis no doubt that American citizens are paying alot more money to get a decent level of privatehealthcare coverage than they would berequired to pay in a public system.
