PARABLE OF THE YEAST OR LEVEN

PARABLE OF THE YEAST OR LEVEN
Matthew 13:33, Luke 13:20-21
Parable of the mustard seed and
the Leven
Both are about the Kingdom
Both Speak of small beginnings
The focus of the leven is not large and
small but rather a hidden beginning that
will result in the completion of God's work
in the Kingdome.
About Leven
Not the same as yeast
Leven is old fermented dough
Yeast is the driving force behind
fermentation, the magical process that
allows a dense mass of dough to become a
well-risen loaf of bread. And yet yeast is
nothing more than a single-celled fungus.
Small is Beautiful
Lots of pressure to be grand
Grand is not the norm
Hidden
The effect of Leven is hidden
Matthew 13:35 (NLT)
35 This fulfilled what God had spoken
through the prophet: “I will speak to you in
parables. I will explain things hidden since
the creation of the world.”
Matthew 13:44 (NLT)
44 “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a
treasure that a man discovered hidden in a
field. In his excitement, he hid it again and
sold everything he owned to get enough
money to buy the field.
Matthew 11:25 (NLT)
25 At that time Jesus prayed this prayer:
“O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank
you for hiding these things from those
who think themselves wise and clever, and
for revealing them to the childlike.
Luke 10:21 (NLT)
21 At that same time Jesus was filled with
the joy of the Holy Spirit, and he said, “O
Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank
you for hiding these things from those who
think themselves wise and clever, and for
revealing them to the childlike. Yes, Father,
it pleased you to do it this way.
Luke 18:34 (NLT)
34 But they didn’t understand any of this.
The significance of his words was hidden
from them, and they failed to grasp what
he was talking about.
God Likes hiding things
Requires faith
Requires "leaning in"
Open heart
Taking time to pursue
Spending the money to pursue
Humbling yourself to pursue
Short verse
Matthew 13:33 (NLT)
33 Jesus also used this illustration: “The
Kingdom of Heaven is like the yeast a
woman used in making bread. Even
though she put only a little yeast in three
measures of flour, it permeated every part
of the dough.”
Luke 13:20 (NLT)
20 He also asked, “What else is the
Kingdom of God like?
Luke 13:21 (NLT)
21 It is like the yeast a woman used in
making bread. Even though she put only a
little yeast in three measures of flour, it
permeated every part of the dough.”
