Teachers guide their students so they can usetheir knowledge of past experiences to gain anew knowledge

This philosophy is learnercentered, whichteaches them to become independentresearchers who are capable of adjusting to newconditions.

SelfDirected Learner: Giving adults theindependence to manage their own educationallearning.

Experience: Adults learn using theirknowledge from past experiences.

Readiness to Learn: The learning that will takeplace must include applicable issues to theadult's life.

Orientation to Learning: Similar to readiness tolearn, adults need to understand how the newknowledge they are learning is relevant to theirlives.

Andragogy allows for traditional teachingapproaches to be used in the classroom in adifferent way that works for the students.

Andragogy assumptions are effective inthe classroom because it createslearning.

It is important to remember other techniquesbesides andragogy because it is not a techniquethat works adults if they are not to the point oflearning that way.
